Adjetivos y adverbios
Existen adjetivos y adverbios, como “rápido, lento, poco, bastante, demasiado”, que por su forma resultan iguales en español. Pero sus funciones son diferentes:
Adjetivo: modifica al nombre. Es variable.
Adverbio: modifica al verbo o a un adjetivo. Es invariable.
In Spanish, there are certain adjectives and adverbs like “rápido, lento, poco, bastante, demasiado” that due to their structure, they seem the same in Spanish, but their functions are different:
Adjective: changes according to the word it modifies. It’s changeable.
Adverb: modifies the verb or an adjective. It’s unchangeable.
En los siguientes casos vemos como la palabra “rápido” varía porque modifica al nombre “coche”, y es por lo tanto un adjetivo.
Tengo un coche rápido.
Tengo unos coches rápidos.
(Indica cómo es el coche)
In the following cases, we can see how the word “rápido” changes because it modifies the name “coche”, therefore becoming an adjective.
I have a fast car
I have fast cars
(it indicates what the car is like)
En los siguientes casos modifica al verbo, y es un adverbio, invariable:
Voy rápido a casa.
Vamos rápido a casa.
(Indica cómo voy).
In the following cases, we can see how the word “rápido” changes modifying the verb, which is an unchangeable adverb:
I’m going home quickly.
We go home quickly.
(indicates how I or we are going)

Cuatro hombres están subiendo un piano al piso 10.
Como ya estaban muy cansados, uno de ellos dice:
-Que vaya alguien a ver cuántos pisos nos faltan.
El otro le dice:
-Vale, voy yo.
El tipo sube y llega hasta el piso 10.
-Bueno, si subí 6 pisos es porque estamos en el piso 4 -piensa. El tipo baja y le dice a sus compañeros:
-Les tengo dos malas noticias.
Entonces, uno de los hombres le dice:
-Dinos una y la otra la dices cuando lleguemos.
-Pues nos faltan 6 pisos para llegar.
Los hombres agotados llegan al piso 10 y entonces le preguntan:
-¿Y cuál era la otra mala noticia?
El tipo le contesta:
-Este no era el edificio.
